The Serialization of Discontent by E.L. Rhodes

The Serialization Of Discontent is a taut suspense thriller, but it doubles as an insightful treatise on the darker nature that lurks within us all. It is often taken for granted that, on the surface, the large majority of us appear to be stable, well-adjusted individuals incapable of egregious acts of malice and harm - but who really knows what lingers just beneath that surface, as well as what may trigger it to emerge and rear its ugly, dangerous head? In Discontent, E.L. Rhodes does an effective job of showing the reader just how (disturbingly) easy it is for the "dark side" of our personas to rise from the shadows and take over all conscious, rational thought, leaving us wondering just what happened - and how - as we struggle to make sense of the ensuing damage it inevitably leaves in its wake. Even though William is not the prototypical "bad guy," his darker nature - borne of the psychological blow dealt to him at an early age - is something with which we are all familiar (whether we acknowledge it or not) and is deserving of sober evaluation if we are to prevent ourselves from ultimately sharing his troubled fate.
